Laser Pain Therapy - Drug Free Treatment of Pain

Seeing your best friend in pain is something that affects every pet owner. Many owners choose the conventional NSAID treatment when painful conditions arise; it works quickly, but may not be without the risk of side effects.

It is not surprising, therefore, that more and more animal lovers look to more natural ways of easing their pet's pain. Laser Light Therapy is one such advanced modality today, which treats both inflammatory and painful conditions in dogs and cats. Dr. Gira first started offering this type of drug-free treatment in 2005 when some of his patients would not tolerate conventionally used painkillers. He began with the use of first generation cold therapy lasers - mostly for chronic arthritic conditions. Over the past several years, he has broadened his use of laser pain therapy to effectively treat many of his patients. Such treatments have included chronic ear problems in dogs, bladder inflammatory conditions in cats, and wound healing, just to name a few.

MLS Harmony Therapy Laser was introduced at Sabadilla Animal Clinic in 2010, uniquely combining continuous and pulsed emissions. Continuous Laser emissions act quickly on reducing inflammation, stimulating blood and lymphatic circulation, however, they only have a secondary effect on pain, which is diminished after reducing the inflammatory process. Pulsed Laser emissions, on the other hand, have an immediate effect on pain, since they are able to produce analgesia, interfering with the very transmission of the pain impulse to the higher brain centers.

MLS Therapy is able to overcome the limits imposed by selecting one of the two emission types. Thanks to this characteristic synchronization, the various therapeutic effects: anti-inflammatory and anti-edema of the continuous emission and analgesic of the pulsed emission - not only take place at the same time but reciprocally reinforce each other.
